Algonquin Park

Saturday, December 8: A full-day touring beautiful Algonquin Park. The Visitor Centre feeders will be up, meaning winter finches will be concentrated! We will spend a lot of time enjoying studying and photographing them at the Visitor Centre. The suet feeder will likely be up at Spruce Bog Boardwalk, meaning Boreal Chickadee is possible. All sorts of boreal species are possible today, including Black-backed Woodpecker, Canada Jay, Spruce Grouse and more.

Outing notes: Please be sure to pack snacks, a warm beverage of your choice, some liquids, sunscreen, windbreaker, comfortable clothing, comfortable and insulated hiking boots, and so on. Please also pack ice grippers for your footwear, if you have them. Consider dressing in layers, with your base layer being thermal clothing (keeps the chill out). Please pack your Ontario Parks pass if you have one. For those purchasing a day pass, the cost is approximately $15.00.

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner: Lunch is available at the Visitor Centre cafeteria. If you pack your lunch, you must eat it outside, away from the VC cafeteria. I am open to organizing a group dinner at the Wilno Tavern after the tour if there’s interest!

Activity Scale: 2/5

Accommodations: Birders might prefer going up the day before the tour, or stay the night after. I recommend the East Gate Motel in Whitney. You must book your own accommodations.
