Winter birding along the St. Lawrence River

Thursday, December 13: This morning we will bird along the St. Lawrence River, from the waterfront in Prescott to Guindon Park in Cornwall. Most of this stretch of the St. Lawrence River will remain open for some time, and the birdlife scene is quite active. We will bird along the river, with our scopes, as well as check feeders and woodlots for Passerines. A mixture of ducks, gulls, the odd Bald Eagle or two and some neat feeder birds, such as Red-bellied Woodpecker, Tufted Titmouse and Carolina Wren, are possible today.

Outing notes: Please be sure to pack snacks, a warm beverage of your choice, some liquids, electrolyte mix, sunscreen, windbreaker, layered clothing, comfortable and insulated hiking shoes, and so on. Consider wearing a thermal underlayer. It’s a good idea to pack winter gloves, a scarf/neck warmer and a toque, as well. I will pack extra ‘winter gear’ in case it’s needed.
