Winter Birding in Ottawa

Saturday, December 23: This afternoon, we will search for roosting small owls such as Northern Saw-whet, Long-eared and Boreal.  What a nice, early Christmas gift that would be…finding a small owl roosting in a tree. The berry trees at the Arboretum may have robins and waxwings, so we’ll be sure to keep an eye out. We will finish our afternoon by heading out to the fields in the Richmond area, in search of Snowy Owls, Horned Larks, Snow Buntings, Lapland Longspurs and Gray Partridge.

Outing notes: Here are some ideas of what to pack and what to wear during this field outing. Some snacks, plenty of water, sturdy and insulated footwear, lens cloth, lip balm, sunscreen, and favoured field guides. Please dress warmly and wear layered clothing.
