Wednesday, February 21: This morning we will visit sites in Frontenac and Lennox & Addington counties, beginning our tour north of Sharbot Lake. Black-backed Woodpecker, Red Crossbill, White-winged Crossbill and possibly even American Three-toed Woodpecker are our targets for the day. Purple Finch and Pine Siskin will also likely be seen and heard today. Other incidentals include Northern Shrike, Ruffed Grouse and possibly even Northern Goshawk (good habitat here). Plenty of time for study and photography will be permitted whenever our targets are found 🙂
Outing notes: Here are some ideas of what to pack and what to wear during our outing. A field lunch, some snacks, water, a thermos full of your preferred hot beverage, hand and foot warmers, extra socks, sturdy and warm footwear, windbreaker, layered clothing, lens cloth, lip balm, sunscreen and favoured field guides.
Lunch: I am happy to schedule a sit-down brunch/lunch for the group if there’s interest.
Activity Scale: Out of five stars, with five being a strenuous day, this trip sits at a 1 out of 5 for most birders. Very short walks throughout the day, but we will mostly be birding by car.
Meet at 9:00 AM at the General Store in Sharbot Lake, right off Highway 7: https://www.google.ca/maps/place/Sharbot+Lake+General+Storefirstname.lastname@example.org,-76.681162,252m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m13!1m7!3m6!1s0x4cd2541fafde82fb:0x6a0467f6e108477b!2sArdoch+Rd,+Ontario!3b1!8m2!3d44.8660607!4d-76.7939738!3m4!1s0x4cd2f66b0acabdcb:0x4b3d237cfda8ad60!8m2!3d44.7983569!4d-76.6794386
