Eastern Ontario “Tundra”

Thursday, March 29: Today we will bird the open fields east of Casselman in search of Snowy Owl, Rough-legged Hawk, Red-tailed Hawk, Northern Shrike and other birds of prey. Snow Buntings, Horned Larks and Lapland Longspurs are likely to be seen in good numbers today. Spring migrants such as Eastern Meadowlark may also be seen. We will visit the Lafleche dump, where we will scan for numerous gull species.

Outing notes: Here are some ideas of what to pack and what to wear during this field outing. Waterproof footwear is recommended, and rain jacket/rain pants are also useful items to have on-hand during spring birding outings. Please pack some snacks, plenty of water, lens cloth, lip balm, sunscreen, and favoured field guides.
