Shirleys Bay Waterfront Trail

Tuesday, April 24:  All sorts of migrants are likely to be present along the trail today, including Eastern Towhee. Fox Sparrows and White-throated Sparrows should be present in good numbers. Ruby-crowned Kinglet’s will be “scratching disks” as they sing their awesome DJ songs. Rusty Blackbirds and Hermit Thrush are likely to be seen in dank areas. Blue-headed Vireo may also be encountered this morning. We will finish the tour birding the boat launch area of Shirleys Bay as well as Hilda feeders.

Outing notes: Here are some ideas of what to pack and what to wear during this field outing. Waterproof footwear is recommended, and rain jacket/rain pants are also good items to have on-hand during spring birding outings. Please pack some snacks, plenty of water, lens cloth, lip balm, sunscreen, and favoured field guides.

Lunch & Dinner: A sit-down lunch at Ralph & Sons Diner will be scheduled for after the tour.

Activity Scale: 2.5-3/5. We will be birding by foot today. Footing may be slippery/wet along the trail. Walking distance is approximately 4 km over a span of 3 hours. The final hour will be spent birding around the Shirleys Bay boat launch area and Hilda Feeders.
