Lanark County waterbirds

Tuesday, October 23: Today, we will be birding the Rideau River in the Smiths Falls area, along with Mississippi Lake and Big Rideau Lake. Participants will be introduced to many new lookouts and locations today! The Lanark Lakes area hosts a great ‘inland’ waterbird scene, where thousands of ducks of all kinds; hundreds upon hundreds of Common Loons; Red-throated Loon are possible; scoters and diving ducks of all sorts; and small numbers of grebes visit and forage before migrating south.

Outing notes: Please be sure to pack snacks, a warm beverage of your choice, some liquids, electrolyte mix, sunscreen, windbreaker, comfortable clothing, comfortable hiking shoes, and so on. It’s a good idea to pack light gloves, a scarf and a toque at this time of year, as well, as it’s often quite blustery.

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner: I am open to organizing a sit-down lunch at the Old Mill at Ashton after the tour.
