Trip Report: Shirleys Bay & Andrew Haydon Park

8:30 AM to 12:30 PM

A nice morning spent with a small flock of EOBs regulars! We observed a nice mix of fall migrants and lingering resident birds. The water level has risen quite a bit over the past few days, so shorebirds have very little (if any) habitat at present. A few surprises in the mix today, including a female-type White-winged Scoter resting on calm water at Shirleys Bay! We decided to stop by Moodie Quarry Pond in search of waterbirds and Lesser Black-backed Gulls, and we not disappointed. We tallied six Lesser Black-backed’s. By early September, Lesser’s arrive in good numbers, peaking by the end of September. Species checklists below…
