Saturday, January 26: Today, we will search for Hawks, Eagles, Falcons and Owls. The meadow voles “outbreak” on Amherst Island has attracted hundreds of birds of prey to the island. We will be cruising open country as well as hike Owl Woods in search of roosting owls. It’s possible that we may bird the entire day on Amherst. If we have time, we will bird Invista Pond and the Cataraqui Bay on our way back home after our birding on Amherst Island.
Outing notes: Please be sure to pack snacks, a warm beverage of your choice, some liquids, electrolyte mix, sunscreen, windbreaker, layered clothing, comfortable and insulated hiking shoes, and so on. Consider wearing a thermal underlayer. It’s a good idea to pack winter gloves, a scarf/neck warmer and a toque, as well. I will pack extra ‘winter gear’ in case it’s needed.
Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner: Please pack a field lunch for today’s tour. For those interested, I am open to organizing a sit-down dinner in Kingston after the trip is complete.
