Saturday, June 29: A full-day birding excursion spent exploring beautiful & bird-species-rich Napanee Limestone Plain Important Birding Area (IBA). We will spend a decent amount of time enjoying backroad birding for warblers and sparrows, as well as birdwatching in nearby marshes, such as Camden Lake Provincial Wildlife Area and Moscow Marsh. We have many target species for the day in this area, including Loggerhead Shrike, Least Bittern, Black Tern, Upland Sandpiper, Eastern Meadowlark, Bobolink, Blue-winged Warbler, Golden-winged Warbler, Indigo Bunting, Willow Flycatcher, Clay-colored Sparrow, Grasshopper Sparrow, Vesper Sparrow and, of course, much more! Our pace today will be nice and slow as we thoroughly cover some excellent birding habitat in search of some of eastern Ontario’s most widely-appreciated breeding birds 🙂
Outing notes: Dress light and seasonal, and consider wearing quick-dry clothing, as well. Please consider packing rubber boots and rainwear, extra socks, insect repellent, mosquito head net/jacket, plenty of water, electrolyte mix (I will supply this, as well), coffee/tea, nutritious snacks, and sunscreen. It’s also a good idea to check the weather forecast for the region in which we will be birding to help you decide on what to wear for the trip!
