Barrie Loonfest & Toronto Waterfront

Fri-Sun, October 12-14, 2018

Two and a half days of birding

A wonderful birding weekend with birding friends new and old. We saw many of our targets, along with a few surprises! The “best” birds were Pacific Loon, Little Gull, LeConte’s Sparrow, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Common Tern and a slew of late migrant warblers. We enjoyed many sweet moments in the field, including seeing a leucistic Double-crested Cormorant in Barrie thanks to Logan and Trevor Baldwin, along with watching a Yellow-billed Cuckoo swoop down and snatch a “woolly bear” caterpillar along a path at Colonel Sam Smith in Toronto! Birding along Toronto’s waterfront was great; we visited Colonel Sam Smith on Saturday and Tommy Thompson Park on Sunday. The weather turned out to be beautiful on Saturday and Sunday (especially on Sunday). Please see the below checklists for our weekend bird species lists…
