Waterfowl along the St. Lawrence

Sunday, October 21st

9:00 AM to 1:00 PM

A very blustery morning spent birding along the St. Lawrence River in the Upper Canada Region! We even had to contend with snow flurries. Keeping our heads down and our birding minds engaged, we pushed on and made the most of the day. We certainly had some nice sightings here and there, including a Peregrine Falcon at Farran Bay and two close Horned Grebes at Lock 21. Our highlight came at the end of our outing, however, when a drake Eurasian Wigeon was spotted by Bree on Hoople Island. It was so close and so lovely, I thought I was in Eurasia…or the west coast er somethin’! What a nice sighting; for all of us, it was our best ever view of this beautiful species of duck. Our checklists can be found below. Good birding!
