Amherst Island & Kingston

Sunday, March 24: Today, we will search for Hawks, Eagles, Falcons and Owls. The meadow vole “outbreak” on Amherst Island has attracted hundreds of birds of prey to the island. We will be cruising open country as well as hike Owl Woods in search of roosting owls. We will be catching the 5:00 PM ferry back to the mainland, then we will head to bird either Invista Pond and the Cataraqui Bay, or Kingston’s Inner Harbour, in search of the ever-increasing number of bay ducks such as scaup, Redhead and more!

Outing notes: Dress in seasonal and comfortable clothing, and consider wearing layers, as well. Please consider packing winter boots, perhaps even rubber boots, ice grippers (if you own them), hand & foot warmers, extra socks, coffee/tea, snacks, water, and sunscreen. It’s also a good idea to check the weather forecast for the region in which we will be birding to help you decide on what to wear for the trip!

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner: Please pack a field lunch for today’s tour. For those interested, I am open to organizing a sit-down dinner in Kingston after the trip is complete.
