Monday, February 17: Today we will hike a variety of trails along the Highway 60 corridor, searching for such classics as the Canada Jay, Boreal Chickadee, Spruce Grouse, Black-backed Woodpecker and more. The winter finch scene in the park is great this winter! We should expect to see Evening Grosbeak, White-winged and Red crossbills, Pine Siskins and more. A road or trailside moose is a possibility today, so we’ll keep our eyes peeled. We will bird mostly the eastern part of the Highway 60 corridor, along with driving westward, in hopes of seeing some interesting roadside mammals and winter finches.
Outing notes: Please note that for non-Ontario Parks pass holders, there is a cost of $17.00 to access the park for the day. Please be sure to check the weather forecast for Whitney, Ontario several days out from the trip to help in your decision about what clothing to wear. Please be sure to pack gloves and a toque, snacks, hand and foot warmers, a warm beverage of your choice, some liquids, sunscreen, and please wear winter boots.
Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner: Participants will enjoy their own breakfasts. We will have our sit-down lunch at the Visitor Centre in the early afternoon. Dinner plans are possible if there is interest! There’s a nice, truckstop diner in Cobden.
