Presqu’ile Provincial Park

Saturday, March 21: Today we are heading to Presqu’ile Provincial Park to take in some late winter/early-spring birding. The highlight at this time of year is the superb collection of waterfowl found on Presqu’ile Bay. Aythya ducks are prevalent in Presqu’ile Bay at this time of year, with thousands upon thousands of Greater Scaup and Redhead, along with hundreds of Canvasback. We will be spending a great deal of time admiring waterfowl, so be sure to bring your waterfowl-related field guides with you today to help in your enjoyment and study. After some general-interest birding in Presqu’ile, we will make our way to Barcovan Beach, where all three species of swans can be seen during the winter months. After birding Barcovan Beach, we may move on to some northwestern sites in Prince Edward County!

Outing notes: Please note that for non-Ontario Parks pass holders, there is a cost of $17.00 to access the park for the day. Please be sure to check the weather forecast for Brighton, Ontario several days out from the trip to help in your decision about what clothing to wear.
