Waterfowl Spectacle at Presqu’ile Provincial Park

Friday, March 19: Today, we will enjoy a full day’s birding at Presqu’ile Park and the surrounding area! Mid-to-late March means it is waterfowl season on the Great Lakes! We will see many species of ducks today, and in astounding numbers. The inner bays hold thousands of scaup and Redheads and hundreds of Canvasbacks. This is a great time of year to watch for Gyrfalcon and Snowy Owls, as well as Bald Eagles and more. We are likely to see a large variety of birds today!

What to pack: Please dress for the season, and be sure to take a look at the forecast for the region in which we will be birding a few days out from the tour. Please pack a cooler with the food and drink of your choice. Pack your optical and photographical equipment, as well as your field guides should you wish to consult them during the tour. During winter, it’s a good idea to pack extra socks, and both hand and foot warmers. Although they are not mandatory, I recommend packing a mask for whenever we might be birding in tight spaces. Please note that a day pass fee to Presqu’ile Park applies for this tour.

eBird Checklists: I will take care of all of the checklists for the day, and share them with you when the tour is complete. Your eBird statistics will automatically update when you accept the checklist. If you are not an eBird user, that is perfectly fine; I will email the checklists when I arrive home. You’ll be able to browse through the sightings list without having to be an eBird user.

Washrooms: I will do my best to schedule a washroom break every 90-120 minutes. However, clients can, at any time, use the great outdoors as a rest stop, too!

Meet-up time and location: Front entrance to Presqu’ile Park (just past the registration building) at 9:30 AM.

Duration: 8 hours.

Cost: $125.00 per person (HST-included). I do not have a preference when it comes to payment type; I accept e-transfer, cash and cheque.
