Murphys Point Provincial Park & Andrew Haydon Park

Saturday, August 21: Today, we will be questing to observe some of eastern Ontario most sought-after bird species, such Blue-winged Warbler, Golden-winged Warbler, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Black-billed Cuckoo, Yellow-throated Vireo, Red-shouldered Hawk, Olive-sided Flytcatcher, Indigo Bunting and much more. Both fall migrants and local breeders will be present during today’s tours and family groups will have dispersed “into the mix.” During this tour, a great variety of fascinating flora and fauna will likely be observed, as we will be visiting some of eastern Ontario’s richest and most biodiverse areas! After our birding at Murphys Point Provincial Park (roughly 6 hours of birding, with scheduled breaks) we will drive to Andrew Haydon Park, where we will birdwatch for several more hours, seeking to observe shorebirds, herons, migrant warblers and vireos and much more. We will be wrapping the tour up at sundown, so hopefully we will be able to enjoy some lovely sunset views!

What to pack: Please dress for the season, and be sure to take a look at the forecast for the region in which we will be birding a few days out from the tour. Please pack a cooler with the food and drink of your choice. Pack your optical and photographic equipment, as well as your field guides should you wish to consult them during the tour.  Although they are not mandatory, I recommend packing a mask for whenever we might be birding in tight spaces. Please note that there is a $17 entry fee to enter this provincial park (for those who are not annual permit carriers).

eBird Checklists: I will take care of all of the checklists for the day, and share them with you when the tour is complete. Your eBird statistics will automatically update when you accept the checklist. If you are not an eBird user, that is perfectly fine; I will email the checklists when I arrive home. You’ll be able to browse through the sightings list without having to be an eBird user.

Washrooms: I will do my best to schedule a washroom break every 90-120 minutes. However, clients can, at any time, use the great outdoors as a rest stop, too!

Meet-up time and location: 9:30 a.m. at the Shell Gas Station in Perth.

Duration: 10  hours.

Cost: $150.00 per person (HST-included). I do not have a preference when it comes to payment type; I accept e-transfer, cash and cheque.
