Presqu’ile Park & Gull Island

Tuesday, October 12: A day tour to Presqu’ile Provincial Park in search of an amazing array of fall migrants. Today, we will start our day by walking over to Gull Island in search of shorebirds, waterfowl, birds of prey, gulls and rare songbirds. The crossing from the mainland to the island is 60 meters long, and the water depth is approx. 24 – 30″ at its deepest. Hip waders or shorts are best for this crossing (not rubber boots, which aren’t high enough). There is a hunting blind close by to the point of Gull Island, which we can individually use, to change from shorts back to pants, and vice versa. Birders pack their cameras, scopes, a basic change of clothes, and snacks and drinks for their time on Gull Island.

What to pack: Please dress for the season, and be sure to take a look at the forecast for the region in which we will be birding a few days out from the tour. Please pack a cooler with the food and drink of your choice. Pack your optical and photographic equipment, as well as your field guides should you wish to consult them during the tour.  Although they are not mandatory, I recommend packing a mask for whenever we might be birding in tight spaces.

eBird Checklists: I will take care of all of the checklists for the day, and share them with you when the tour is complete. Your eBird statistics will automatically update when you accept the checklist. If you are not an eBird user, that is perfectly fine; I will email the checklists when I arrive home. You’ll be able to browse through the sightings list without having to be an eBird user.

Washrooms: I will do my best to schedule a washroom break every 90-120 minutes. However, clients can, at any time, use the great outdoors as a rest stop, too!

Meet-up time and location: 9:30 a.m. at the Park Store parking lot at Presqu’ile Park. Please note that you must book your day pass to this park ahead of your arrival. I recommend booking 4-5 days out from the tour, to avoid disappointment (i.e. a fully booked park!).

Duration: 8 hours

Cost: $135 per person (HST-included). I do not have a preference when it comes to payment type; I accept e-transfer, cash and cheque.

Participant cap: 8
