Cerulean Warblers and more at Frontenac Park

Thursday, May 26: Today, we will explore Frontenac Provincial Park along several especially bird-rich trails. During the summer of 2015, I was employed to conduct surveys for Cerulean Warbler in the Park. I fell head over heels for the impressively rugged landscape, sky-scraping maple trees and lovely “southern” breeding birds. Since that summer, I have been leading tours to Frontenac Park. I am happy to lead you along a few of my favourite birding trails in the park. Please note that for today’s tour, you will need to be physically fit for hiking in rugged landscapes (hilly, undulating terrain; on our feet for hours at a time) in order to participate.

What to pack: Please dress for the season, and be sure to take a look at the forecast for the region in which we will be birding a few days out from the tour. Please pack a cooler with the food and drink of your choice. Pack your optical and photographic equipment, as well as your field guides should you wish to consult them during the tour.  Although they are not mandatory, I recommend packing a mask for whenever we might be birding in tight spaces.

eBird Checklists: I will take care of all of the checklists for the day, and share them with you when the tour is complete. Your eBird statistics will automatically update when you accept the checklist. If you are not an eBird user, that is perfectly fine; I will email the checklists when I arrive home. You’ll be able to browse through the sightings list without having to be an eBird user.

Washrooms: Clients will likely have to use the “great outdoors” for their restroom breaks, as proper restroom facilities will likely be in short supply.

Meet-up time and location: 8:30 a.m. at Frontenac Provincial Park Office. 6700 Big, Salmon Lake Rd, South Frontenac, ON K0H 2T0.

Duration: 6 hours.

Cost: $110 per person (HST-included). I do not have a preference when it comes to payment type; I accept e-transfer, cash and cheque.
