Friday, June 10: Today, we will explore Murphys Point Provincial Park in search of species such as Cerulean Warbler, Blue-winged Warbler, Golden-winged Warbler, Yellow-throated Vireo, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Scarlet Tanager, Indigo Bunting, Eastern Towhee, Red-shouldered Hawk, Barred Owl and much more! A remarkable abundance of incidental flora and fauna is also likely to be observed today; this area of Eastern Ontario is rich in variety.
What to pack: Please dress for the season, and be sure to take a look at the forecast for the region in which we will be birding a few days out from the tour. Please pack a cooler with the food and drink of your choice. Pack your optical and photographic equipment, as well as your field guides should you wish to consult them during the tour. Although they are not mandatory, I recommend packing a mask for whenever we might be birding in tight spaces. Please note that an Ontario Parks day-use fee applies for this tour. You must book your own day use at the park’s registration building; the registration is open at 8:00 a.m. during the summer months.
eBird Checklists: I will take care of all of the checklists for the day, and share them with you when the tour is complete. Your eBird statistics will automatically update when you accept the checklist. If you are not an eBird user, that is perfectly fine; I will email the checklists when I arrive home. You’ll be able to browse through the sightings list without having to be an eBird user.
Washrooms: We will be birding along quiet backroads in the Frontenac Arch. Clients will have to use the “great outdoors” for their restroom breaks, as no proper facilities will be available.
Meet-up time and location: 8:30 a.m. at Silver Queen Mine Trail parking lot. Please note that you must book for day-use at Murphys Point by visiting the registration kiosk or by using Ontario Parks’ online registration system.
Duration: 8 hours.
Cost: $140 per person (HST-included). I do not have a preference when it comes to payment type; I accept e-transfer, cash and cheque.
