Friday, December 2: During today’s tour, we will bird along the St. Lawrence River waterfront from Johnstown to Brockville, and then birdwatch at Mac Johnson Wildlife Area. A lovely array of waterfowl, Bald Eagles, gulls, falcons, sparrows and more will be searched for. Birders will be introduced to some excellent but little-known vantages along this under-birded portion of the St. Lawrence River shoreline.
What to pack/What to know: Please dress for the season, and be sure to take a look at the forecast for the region in which we will be birding a few days out from the tour. For winter tours, it’s a good idea to pack extra socks, as well as foot and hand warmers. Be sure to pack ice grippers/cleats in case the walking paths are icy. Please pack a full cooler with the food and drink of your choice. Lastly, pack your optical and photographic equipment, and also your spotting scope, if you have one.
eBird Checklists: I will take care of all of the checklists for the day, and share them with you when the tour is complete. Your eBird statistics will automatically update when you accept the checklist. If you are not an eBird user, that is perfectly fine; I will email the checklists when I arrive home. You’ll be able to browse through the sightings list without having to be an eBird user.
Washrooms: I will schedule a washroom break every 90-120 min throughout the tour.
Activity rating: 1/5.
Meet-up time and location: 11:00 a.m. at Johnstown/Prescott area; exact location, TBD.
