Searching for November rarities in Prince Edward County

Tuesday, November 14: Today, we will be birding of one eastern Ontario’s top fall birding areas: Prince Edward County. November is traditionally a rare bird month in PEC. We will birdwatch in traditionally productive areas in search of Little Gull, Golden Eagle, Purple Sandpiper, Pacific Loon, Black Vulture, Townsend’s Solitaire, Mountain Bluebird and more! Who knows what we may or may not discover…the only way for us to know is by getting out there and carefully having a look!

Guarantees: With birds, there are never guarantees, but the good news is you’ll have a professional guide at the helm with many years of experience searching for and identifying birds. As always, I will endeavour to make the most of each tour, and the philosophy I encourage is to “take whatever the day brings.” 🙂

What to pack/What to know: Please dress for the season and be sure to check on the weather conditions ahead of the tour. Please pack your photographical and optical equipment of your choice; if you have a spotting scope, pack it, as well. Please pack a full lunch, which you can leave in your vehicle. I recommend packing liquids and snacks. If it’s sunny on tour day, I recommend wearing a hat in order to protect from the heat of the radiating sunlight.

Accommodations: Clients may choose to book a hotel/motel room the night before or the night after the tour. Trenton and Belleville are good options, with a nice suite of hotels/motels to choose from. Clients are in charge of their own bookings (and selections).

eBird Checklists: I will take care of all of the checklists for the day, and share them with you when the tour is complete. Your eBird statistics will automatically update when you accept the checklist. If you are not an eBird user, that is perfectly fine; I will email the checklists after the tour. You’ll be able to browse through the sightings list without having to be an eBird user.

Washrooms: I will schedule a washroom break every 90-120 minutes.

Activity rating: 2/5. We will be walking a total of 5-7 km. during today’s tour.

Meet-up time and location: 8:30 a.m. at the Esso gas station in Deseronto. 319 County Rd 49, Deseronto, ON K0K 1X0.
