Waterbirds at Alfred Sewage Lagoons

Wednesday, April 10: Today, we will stand and view a large number of waterbirds from a viewing tower at Alfred Sewage Lagoons. We will look for multiple species of geese, and sift through numbers of waterfowl with our scopes, binoculars and cameras. The adjacent fields may also be productive. On the way “back,” we will stop by the Embrun Sewage Lagoon, and scan for waterfowl before wrapping up the tour.

What to pack/What to know: Please dress for the season and be sure to check on the weather conditions ahead of the tour. Wearing a thermal base layer is a helpful way to stay warm during spring, especially when birding near the water. Please pack your photographical and optical equipment of your choice; if you have a spotting scope, pack it, as well. Please pack a full lunch, which you can leave in your vehicle. I recommend packing liquids and snacks, as well.

Washrooms: I will schedule a washroom break after the Alfred leg of the tour.

Activity rating: 0/5.

Meet-up time and location: 2:30 p.m. at the Tim Hortons in Alfred.
