Target Birds along NCC Fishing Lake Road

Saturday, June 15: Today, we will search for a wide variety of Target Birds in along a beautiful and bird-rich road in the heart of the Southern Frontenac Arch! We will search for Prairie Warbler, Cerulean Warbler, Blue-winged Warbler, Golden-winged Warbler, Yellow-throated Vireo, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Black-billed Cuckoo, Indigo Bunting, Scarlet Tanager, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Eastern Towhee, Red-shouldered Hawk, Broad-winged Hawk, Barred Owl, Least Bittern, American Bittern, Black Tern, Common Loon and much more!

Guarantees: With birds, there are never guarantees, but the good news is you’ll have a professional guide at the helm with many years of experience searching for and identifying birds. As always, I will endeavour to make the most of each tour, and the philosophy I encourage is to “take whatever the day brings.” 🙂

What to pack/What to know: Please dress for the season, and be sure to take a look at the forecast for the region in which we will be birding a few days out from the tour. Please pack a cooler with the food and drink of your choice, your optical and photographic equipment, as well as your field guides should you wish to consult them during the tour. Please also pack your spotting scope, if you have one, along with some insect repellent and sunscreen, as well.

eBird Checklists: I will take care of all of the checklists for the day, and share them with you when the tour is complete. Your eBird statistics will automatically update when you accept the checklist. If you are not an eBird user, that is perfectly fine; I will email the checklists after the tour. You’ll be able to browse through the sightings list without having to be an eBird user.

Washrooms: I will schedule a washroom break every 90-120 minutes.

Activity rating: 2/5. We will be walking 3-5 km total over a span of 8-9 hours during today’s tour, i.e. short walks/not a lot of walking throughout the day.

Meet-up time and location: 8:30 a.m. at Rideau Canal Lock 36, in Newboro, ON. 10 Blockhouse Ln, Elgin, ON K0G 1E0

Duration: 6-7 hours, with a scheduled lunch break included.
