Amherst Island & Kingston

Sunday, August 5: Enjoy the best of late-summer birding on Amherst Island and the surrounding area. If you like swallows, there is no place like Amherst Island for seeing large numbers congregating during late summer before migrating south. Telephone wires become decorated with up to six species, perched side-by-side. Shorebirds, large numbers of grassland birds, loons and a variety of waterfowl are also to be expected today. We will be hiking Martin Edwards Reserve as well as Sand Beach Wetlands C.A. In town, we will bird by the latest reports for the region, but a stop at the Amherstview Sewage Lagoon is a guarantee!

Outing notes: Please be sure to pack snacks, plenty of liquids, electrolyte mix, sunscreen, insect repellent, comfortable and breathable clothing, comfortable hiking shoes, and so on. Note that I will be packing electrolyte mix for the group should you wish to sprinkle some into your water bottle.

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner: Please pack a field lunch today. I am open to organizing a sit-down dinner in Kingston.
