Tundra Birds in Eastern Ontario

Saturday, November 24: A half-day outing in search of “tundra” birds east of Ottawa, from the Casselman area east to St. Isidore. Some of our targets today include numbers of Lapland Longspur, Snow Bunting, Horned Lark, Iceland Gull, Glaucous Gull, Snowy Owl, Northern Harrier, Bald Eagle and Rough-legged Hawk. In fact, even a Gyrfalcon is possible today! If Sandhill Cranes are lingering in the Navan area, we will endeavour to see them on our way back into Ottawa.

Outing notes: Please be sure to pack snacks, a warm beverage of your choice, some liquids, electrolyte mix, sunscreen, windbreaker, layered clothing, comfortable and insulated hiking shoes, and so on. Consider wearing a thermal underlayer. It’s a good idea to pack winter gloves, a scarf/neck warmer and a toque, as well. I will pack extra ‘winter gear’ in case it’s needed.

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner: A sit-down lunch at the Casselman Restaurant is possible after the tour. We’ll decide during the trip!
