This brings me back to 22 March 2013, when Michael Runtz and I enjoyed a 4 subspecies day at the Hilda Rd. feeders in the west end of Ottawa. Michael first spotted the Hornemann’s — a true snowball. Briefly, a second Hornemann’s showed near the first one. Instead of a faint leathery blush to its breast, it had a faint salmon colouration — assumed trait of a male. It is nice to sit back, sip coffee, and enjoy the sights and sounds of hundreds of redpolls visiting a feeder….remotely viewed from the comfort of one’s own home :).<\/p>\n
<a
