Overview, Targets, & Topics: The Richmond Sewage Lagoon is a red-hot spring and fall birding destination. Many species of migrant landbirds use this site as a migration stop over. By now (30 August) warbler diversity has really picked up so we’ll be sure to work shrubs, secondary growth, and edge habitat to the bone in search of them. Sparrows, thrushes, flycatchers, and vireos should also be here in good numbers, and, in good variety. The sewage ponds traditionally hold an interesting variety of ducks, so we’ll centre them in our scopes (or binoculars) and chat about their identification features (with a special emphasis on females).
